What are Gallstones?

Gallstones are hardened deposits of digestive fluid that can form in the gallbladder. The gallbladder is a small, pear-shaped organ located just beneath your liver. The gallbladder stores a digestive fluid called bile that is released into your small intestine to aid in the digestion of food. Gallstones range in size from as small as a grain of sand to as large as a golf ball; one or more gallstones may be present.

Gallstones Symptoms & Treatment

People who experience symptoms from their gallstones usually require surgery to remove the gallbladder. Gallstones that do not cause any signs and symptoms typically do not need treatment.
